About UsThe Greater Edwardsville Area Community Foundation is dedicated to the enhancement and betterment of the quality of life in the communities of Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Hamel, Moro, Dorsey, Worden and the surrounding areas. During 2010, The GEACF distributed more than $896,313 in awards, grants and scholarships from the General Fund to benefit local charitable organizations and deserving students. In addition, The GEACF has 38 separate funds with a value of assets at $1,771,545. Since its inception in 1997, The GEACF has distributed more than $5.4 million to charitable causes. What is a Community Foundation?The Greater Edwardsville Area Community Foundation (GEACF) is a charitable trust that receives, manages, and distributes tax-deductible charitable contributions for the benefit of the greater Edwardsville area communities and its residents. Who administers The Foundation’s affairs?The affairs of The Foundation are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, all of whom serve without pay. Each director is a local resident appointed to the Board because of demonstrated concern for the future of the Edwardsville area. What are the sources of The Foundation funds?The Foundation accepts contributions from private citizens, local businesses, and other organizations interested in serving the charitable needs of the area. The Foundation has been certified by the Internal Revenue Service as 501 (c) (3) organization. As a result, contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. How will my donation be used?There are many options for giving. You may advise the Board of Directors regarding specific projects or organizations you choose to fund. A contribution to the General Fund authorizes the Board to distribute your contribution as the Board deems appropriate in response to grant requests or to meet obvious charitable needs. You may want to consider the establishment of a Donor Advised Fund within the Foundation.
