Board Members from both GEACF and Habitat for Humanity stand in front of the Chapter's latest build at 4 Saddlewood in Glen Carbon

The Greater Edwardsville Area Community Foundation here recently presented a check to the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chapter of Habitat for Humanity for a grant awarded to them to help with their latest build at 4 Saddlewood in Glen Carbon.

The Greater Edwardsville Area Community Foundation (GEACF) awarded a $2,000 grant to the chapter of Habitat for Humanity.  “We are thrilled by the Foundation’s support of our organization,” said the Chapter’s Tresurer, Bob Kurilla. “It is incredible how the Greater Edwardsville Area Community Foundation supports so many deserving non-profits in our area, and we are grateful to be one of them.A charitable trust that receives, manages, and distributes tax-deductible charitable contributions; the GEACF is committed to providing the community with options for donating their money locally.   The Foundation receives contributions from private citizens, local businesses and other organizations interested in funding the charitable needs of the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon area.

This recent grant went directly to the build of the Chapter’s latest home in the area, located at 4 Saddlewood in Glen Carbon.   The Chapter held a dedication ceremony for the family, a mother and three children, on July 9.

“This money will enable us to change this family’s life,” said Habitat Secretary Susan Kurilla.  “Seeing the faces of the children when they saw their bedrooms for the first time was such a reward.  This grant has been critical in enabling us to make a difference in those kids’ lives.  We can’t thank the GEACF enough.”

Chairman of the Greater Edwardsville Area Foundation’s Board of Directors, David Gerber, said the GEACF Board was pleased to support a program like Habitat for Humanity.  “We see what a difference this group is making in our area and we are so happy to be able to support them.”  Gerber said.  “The Foundation is run by a group of volunteers, and we are always impressed with other groups of volunteers who work so hard to get things done.  This is the fifth house the Chapter has built in the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon and we are happy to be able to support yet another build.”

“The Greater Edwardsville Area Community Foundation has supported our Chapter of Habitat for Humanity from the very beginning,” said Susan Kurilla.  “They were a large supporter for our very first build in 2008 and have stuck by us ever since.  We truly are grateful to them for seeing what an impact a program like Habitat for Humanity makes in our community.”

The Greater Edwardsville Area Community Foundation is dedicated to the enhancement and betterment of the quality of life in the communities of Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Hamel, Moro, Dorsey, Worden and the surrounding areas.

During 2010, The GEACF distributed more than $896,313 in awards, grants and scholarships from the General Fund to benefit local charitable organizations and deserving students.

Since its inception in 1997, The GEACF has distributed more than $5.4 million to charitable causes.
